What's On My MP3 Player?

(word glyph courtesy of Wordle)

Our next Media Literacy project asks the question, What's On My MP3 player? This project is to be created in Audacity and must include a multi-track mix of short music clips combined with a series of short podcast sequences. For this project, all students must bring their headphones to class as well as 15 MP3 files (music files). I will supply the podcasts. Your finished project should sound something like this.

Don't let money fool ya

Our nation's crippled economy has many Americans worried about where their next paycheck will come from. Many adults with mortgages and other expenses like electric bills, gas bills, insurance bills, car notes, cable bills, water bills, food bills, real estate taxes, credit card bills and more are very, very concerned. Times are so hard that some adults have resorted to drastic measures.

On the other hand, many young people feel that the nation's failing economy is "grown folks business" and doesn't affect them. Most high school students are oblivious to the nation's economic crisis and could care less. But what if school were to end today? All schools - high schools, trade schools, colleges and universities. What if, tomorrow, you woke up and all schools were closed forever?

If that were the case, then given what you've learned over your ?? years of schooling and given what you've learned outside of the classroom, what would you do - better yet, what could you do tomorrow, with your mind and with your hands, to make a living and keep your head above water?

Feast Your Eyes

My friend Abiodun e-mailed me this inspiring slideshow of President-elect Obama, his family and his political team as the Obamas awaited the results of the 2008 presidential election. Feast your eyes. The front page image of The Sacramento Bee is from Newseum.org

This image (also from Newseum.org) of young people using their cell phones to take pictures of printed newspapers, speaks volumes about the way we learn and gather information today.

Bring your headphones to class (or you might not hear me)

A large part of our classwork for the next several months will require that you listen to and watch various web based and digital productions. You will also need to record a number of speaking parts for your class productions, so, bring you headphones and microphones to school so that you can hear and record your work.

As long as xtranormal remains user friendly (free), I don't see any reason why it can't become a regular part of our digital tool belt. Thanks to our buddy in Maryland, Mr. Mayo for spreading the good word about xtranormal over twitter.

Below is a short lesson sequence I put together using xtranormal. Xtranormal is a really nice production tool for creating animated movies online. Xtranormal is very, very addictive.
